Dallas / Fort Worth New Year Celebration
The Sri Lankan community in and around Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, celebrated the Sri Lankan New Year on Saturday April 11th at a public park in Euless, Texas.  The annual celebration that has become a regular gathering for the area families was a day of fun for young and the old.  Plenty of traditional food and games were in order on a day of excellent weather for outdoors fun.

Several members of the community attended a religious ceremony at the Sri Lankan temple in Fort Worth prior to the customery gathering at the park.

The celebration began with the lighting of the oil lamp by children helped along by organizer Rozaine Auwardt.

    • Datta Yoga Center in association with various diverse communities in the city of Frisco and with the active support from the City of Frisco, the Frisco chamber of commerce, the Frisco visitors and conventions bureau are bringing a diverse multi cultural event on June 6 2009 at the Warren Sports complex, 15445 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco, 75034.

      The event is a multi culture and multi diversity event that includes Sports,- Super 8*8 Cricket, Music, Entertainment, multi cuisine food festival, fireworks, cross cultural entertainment, shopping and kids entertainment such as kite flying. 10,000 people are expected to attend across DFW metroplex. Last year this event grossed over 6000 people.

      We would like to invite all the cricket teams in the North Texas to participate in this unique opportunity.

      Following is the brief tentative program:

      · 24th and 25th May 2009- Prelims league matches upto about 40 teams are slated to participate.

      June 6th 2009 between 3pm -8 pm will be quarters, semis and finals. The finals will be held under flood lights.

      · Seniors( Above 19+) , Women( All age groups0 and Youth( Below 19)

      · Event Location: A sprawling 100 acre complex, Warren sports centre is the place of location for this event.

      Entry fee: 320 USD 8/8

      Prize money: Winner: 2000 USD , Runner up : 1000 USD/-( Subject to change if the no: of teams don’t meet the criteria).

      We are requesting your organization to represent in this unique program and would appreciate if you could send us your interest and program.

      The last date for registration is 30th April 2009.

      Several community leaders have joined as advisors to make this really a diverse event with Maher Maso-Mayor of Frisco as the Chairman.
