Charity Dinner & Project Progress
The Hope for Life Charity dinner was a resounding success with over 200 Houstonians coming together to show their support for this worthy cause. It was heartening to see the Sri-Lankan American community irrespective of their religion, ethnicity, race and political beliefs gathered together in harmony to lend a hand to “Project Rebuild”.
The civil strife between the governments of Sri-Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam which spanned over two decades has finally come to an end. As we embrace a sense of relief that the strife has ended, Sri-Lankans as a nation are coming together to assist the civilians who were caught between the warring factions. Many are displaced, have lost their belongings and are housed in government run camps. The affected children are malnourished and recovering from physical and psychological trauma, some of which they will carry for life. Due to this long standing strife, many parents have no training or education to sustain a livelihood.
” is a humanitarian project initiated by a group of caring Sri-Lankan-American families in Houston, Texas to provide immediate relief and assistance with long term rebuilding and rehabilitation with an emphasis on the welfare of children in order to help bring some relief and normalcy to their lives.
