Vesak 2011 Celebration at the Texas Buddhist Meditation Center
Buddhists of Sri Lankan origin and friends in North Texas celebrated the 2600th anniversary of the Buddha's awakening with a traditional vesak celebration at the Texas Buddhist Meditation Center. The event took place on Saturday May 21st in the presence of many area devotees who started the day early with morning dhana to the monks and the lay people who observed the eight precepts.
The afternoon's highlights included an eye opening buddhist talk by Ven. Dedunupitiye Upananda thero describing the meaning of 'seeing the buddha'. The talk was followed by bhakthi gee sung by devotees of all ages. A successful celebration concluded with the lighting of Vesak Lanterns.
