Karuna Trust begins rebuilding of rural school
A/ Tammenakulama school was destroyed by terrorist activity several years ago leaving the children of Thammennakulama and Kelesiyambalawa villages with no school to attend for several years. The school was reopen in a temporary building last January.
Karuna Trust members visited this school a few months ago and found that the roof of the temporary building is unsafe and weak.
A decision was made to build a new building for this school with well wisher donations. The trust made a request from well-wishers to help in this worthy project. The Sri Lanka National Association of Canada headed by Mr. Mahinda Gunasekera and Mr. Chamath Abeygunawardena responded with a collection of over SLR 900,000.00 for this project. The estimated cost is SLR 1.5m. Community participation will cover SLR. 300,000.00.
Work on the new building was started on the 26th of June 2012 and will be completed within three months. Karuna Trust wishes to thank all who came forward to join in this worthy cause.
