Cinnamon Girl Poster

The Project
“Cinnamon Girl” is set in 2009 Sri Lanka and focuses on Salani, 18, who has grown up on a cinnamon plantation and, after the mysterious death of her mother sets out on a journey in which she ultimately discovers both her changing country and herself.  The project will have a workshop presentation on September 29, 2013, and will have its world premiere in April 2014.
The Character of the Sri Lankan Young Woman
The character of Salani grows from a place of subjugation and uncertainty to a strength and curiosity that allow her to begin her adult life with confidence and integrity.  The character sings many solo songs, but also sings duets.
This is what we are hoping you can help us with:
 1.     Please invite your audiences to support the workshop and production.  The presence of the Sri Lankan community means a great deal to our effort to present the first American musical about Sri Lankan culture.
2.     Please publicize the workshop and production in your newsletters of other means of communicating with your community.  (We also can email them Paperless Post invitations if you provide us with email addresses.)
3. Please publicize our search for a Sri Lankan actress to your community.  This is our preferred text:  “Playwrights’ Arena, a Los Angeles theatre, is presenting a new musical, “Cinnamon Girl,” about Sri Lankan culture, the first American musical to focus solely on Sri Lankan life.  The theatre is in search of a Sri Lankan actress/singer who can play age 18.  The project premieres in Aril 2014 in Los Angeles.  Please send photo and resume to Mr. Jon Lawrence Rivera, Playwrights’ Arena, c/o Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S.
