A New Building for Halugama Junior School
Halugama is a rural village about 3km away from Meerigama. "Dharmapala Primary School" is the only school for this village. The parents who can afford, send their children to better schools in the city. Only the poor parents send their children to this school and it is overlooked by the higher authorities.
There are 226 children in this school, packed in five classrooms. The principal of the school said that there are 67 new applications for the coming year and he will be able to get admitted only 40 children in the place of the outgoing children after passing fifth standard.
We went to this school few months ago to donate some children's books and after seeing the difficulties undergoing by the children we decided to build a building with two classrooms. Ven. Bihkku Bodhi, Mrs. Nancy Fitzgerald, Mr. Niroon Buddhisiri, Mr. Kirthi Senaratne and M/S. Karunaratne & Sons have funded this project.
Yesterday at an auspicious time we started the project by laying the foundation stone. We got two children who have got through the year five scholarships exam in this year to lay the foundation stone.
We thank all our well-wishers for the continuous help that we get from them for our social activities.
