2006  A woman suicide bomber of the LTTE attempted to assasinate Army Chief Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka inside Sri Lanka's well fortified military headquarters complex. The explosion killed several security officers and critically wounded Fonseka. The government conducted retaliatory air strikes on LTTE targets in Sampur, Trincomalee.

2007  FBI arrested Karunakaran Kandasamy in Queens, New York, on charges of providing material support to LTTE, a foreign terrorist organization. Evidence found at his office revealed that he had raised millions of dollars for the World Tamil Coordinating Committee alleged to be a front for the LTTE.
